50 going on 51
August 29, 2008
what’s the big hoo-haas lately?? Malaysia’s turning 51 y’all… or is it really turning 45?? not being at all mean or anything, but August 31st 1957 was the independence day for Tanah Melayu (i.e. Peninsular Malaysia), and the Eastern comrades joined venture only in September 16 1963, right?? or is my history that rusty.
but anyhows…. we celebrate only the former 1957 Tanah Melayu independence and discard the 1963 formation of Malaysia. why don’t we celebrate the day Malaysia was formed?? beats me.. no idea.. but all i know is we are told to celebrate Aug 31st instead of September 16.. maybe trying to make us appear as a wiser country by skipping a few years ahead??? hmmm… don’t know…
but anyways.. all these celebration was creating huge havoc (read TRAFFIC JAMS) with major roads closed for practices… such dread!! bugger..
anyways, on the plus side, we do get an extra one day of public holidays on monday to replace the supposed sunday celebration. so, whatever it is, happy birthday malaysia, though it’s not your REAL birthday… but since the government chose to celebrate it on this date, whatevers!
p/s: this is not a very sincere post i know… but i am still as puzzled as ever that why can’t we celebrate the 1963 formation? i mean the 1957 independence can still be celebrated since the 1st PM fought for the Tanah Melayu’s independence. so, this aug 31st can be an exclusive holiday for the west coast, no?? and then all malaysians (eastern included) can celebrate the 1963 one… right? right???

to set the record straight
August 26, 2008
I AM NOT SEEING ANYBODY, and yes, i’m still very very much single
i know, this is havoc and chaos i myself am to blame, for having itchy hands to remove my relationship status on facebook. but here i am to defend myself: simply choosing to remove my relationship status does not mean i’m seeing someone, right??
so just in case some potential pursuers will back off just cause of that *ahem* and to stop all the confusions, i’ve changed my relationship status back to SINGLE. so.. people, no more confusion har…
and don’t worry, if i’m seeing someone, I WILL ANNOUNCE IT TO THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD.

bimbo no more
August 25, 2008
not that i’m that full swing of a bimbo either, but hey!! i’ve managed to overcome another hurdle and shake myself off being the blond amongst the asians.
how did i manage to reform myself?? oh well, none other than joining a mission trip to the orang asli’s kampungs… yeap….. you hear me right. i actually went on a mission trip the the kampungs of the orang asli deep in some mountains in Gopeng, Perak… well, since the trip was only a one day one night trip, i figure i might as well join the gung-ho group….
it’s my first mission trip, so i gear myself with all the necessities, except getting a backpack since i thought i might not go for a second trip (which is wrong… i MIGHT go again this coming october, if they organize it again).. but i got myself a sleeping bag, torch light, and some other stuffs that you think you might need for a hiking trip, minus the tent.
yeah.. so we drove up to Gopeng, a 2 and half hours drive, and had lunch there…. then went to kampung no. 1, which is Pos Slim… well… this kampung was a little more exposed to the circular world, cos when we are doing some community work (such as hair cutting), some of them requested for a hair dye, and also a slope cut…. and kept asking for gifts… but sadly what they need more is medical needs and also personal hygiene.. since of the ladies that we cut her hair for has lices.. and the thought of it makes my hair itch… yikes… and also, of course they need education as well… but they are so different… they know missionaries coming in will offer them gifts, and they, although being in an outskirt kampung, were rather materialistic as well…
the children will fight for the gifts, and ask more of it even though they had had it… and they will really force you into giving them things…. scary.. and once they got what they want, they disappeared just like that, and did not even send you off… wow…
and after spending an hour and a half in the first kampung, we trekked into the 2nd kampung. the 2nd kampung was further into the mountains… it’s by the sungai itek, which is famous for white water rafting (will go there to raft!!!!)…. so anyways… before reaching the kampung, we have to trek on foot for approximately45 minutes to enter their kampung. this is where you have to discard your bimbotic nature… you’ll have to trek in on foot on muddy treks… and when it rains, you can imagine your feet soaked in natural mud mask… all clay and mud… and this time we’re lucky that there aren’t any leeches… else…. ewww…. and yucks… and yikes!!!
so the trekking wasn’t that hard, just tiring…. but we do get our rewards!!! we got to eat durians on the way as the jungle was full of durian trees… not D24 or whatever species, but mountain durains… all wild and natural, no preservatives added, and of course, no chemicals!!! organic durians!!!! and they’re yummy (had them for breakfast the next day too)
so we trekked in… upon arrival, we had to change and shower, and we were given two options: one is the proper bathroom at the back of the church, and the other one, the kampung way… SUNGAI ITEK!!! of course i chose the sungai itek… that’s why i borrowed the sarong from alicia.. and the river water was so refreshing….. and the current was strong too…. so this was a great experience.. i get to change in public within a sarong (you know, you strip before hitting the water?? yeah.. we girls do that in public with the aide of a sarong…. it requires skills….. man…) and shower in the river with our sarongs on…. but we’re still city girls, come on… we need our Dove shampoos, conditioners, our Palmolive body wash… LOL…. this is like vacationing rather than misstion trip… the river was the highlight of the whole trip.. oh not to mention the durians too..
well, this 2nd kampung, Kampung Ulu Kampar, is friendlier… the children are gentle and meek and friendly… all smiles and cutesy and all… they have a heart of worship. despite heavy rain at night, and not having umbrellas, and non lighted pathways to the little church building, the elderlies together with the younger generation walked up to the church in rain, holding torch lights…. that, truly touched my heart as they have the heart to lift up our God’s name…. wow… such worshipping spirit…
so the night ended, and we have to be within the church premise by 11pm, as the generator will go off around that night… the floor was cold, it was cemented, and all windows shut tight, as there will be pythons and bears in the jungle…. pythons will find their way in if the doors weren’t closed tight… that totally freak us out…. so everyone stayed within the building, held our pee pee cause no one dared to go out to pee, you know, we wouldnt want to risk ourselves feeding the pythons and bears… but during mid night, the dogs were howling non stop though…*shudders*
anyways, we woke up the next morning, had durians for breakfast ~ yumilicous~ and had a little of sharing time, and then trek down and head back to Gopeng for lunch… by lunch time all of us were hungry ghosts, walloping all food…. and then we drove back to mud city…
by the time i reached home was already evening and raining… body was all sore due to luggage carrying (i shan’t bring that much clothes next time), and was exhausted.. but i had a great time though…. and of course i missed the olympics closing… and opted for my sleep marathon instead.
well, after this mission trip, i shan’t say myself as spoiled anymore… (so don’t call me a spoil brat now… you know who you are).. will i go for another mission trip?? well… probably…. i…. will!!
oh, by the way, photos up next time, once i got them all from others… i did not bring my camera with me, thus no pics from my side..
what musical instrument do you think i am?
August 21, 2008
happened to stumble upon a little quiz application on facebook termed What Musical Instrument Are You?? and this rather attracts my attention a little more…
some of you might not know, but i do play a little bit of music myself…. my 1st instrument is the widely played piano (9 out of 10 kids played them). so i suppose anything that has some relation to music will attract me just a wee bit, thus i decided to try on this 5-questions quiz…
ok… so it was somewhat true of the little personality quiz… and what’s amazing is that i do play the clarinet, too
maybe that’s why i chose the clarinet as my 2nd instrument?? some unexplainable connection there maybe…
you’re wacky, you’re fun, but no longer twenty-one
August 21, 2008
happy birthday!!!! too bad i’m not there to celebrate it with you (but i don’t remember celebrating it together with you, too, well only when we’re still little punks and were yet to hit puberty).. but anyways, have a good one!!!!!
muacks!!
the story of china yogurt boy
August 20, 2008
this is a VERY LONG post dedicated to china yogurt boy (cyb), well, not really a dedication, rather a revelation to all my readers whom cyb may be…
ok, so cyb was an ex-housemate of my during my 3rd year in college. he is from china (obviously), and his real name is round west (translate it to mandarin), so quite true to his name, he’s rather round, and tall too. oh, he’s from the Harbin, so rather huge and fair, too.
so i met cyb during my 2nd summer in freddy. i just returned to freddy from my 3 months holidays in malaysia, so my first time meeting cyb was somewhere around august of 2005. he was a quiet sort of boy. seemingly shy, doesn’t speak to you. doesn’t look down (literally) to you when you speak to him cause he does not make any eye contacts. ok, so all of us just thought well, he’s an extreme introvert, so let him be…. but what ticks me off is numerous times, when he walked past me (be it in college, in the apartment or on the streets), i said “hi” rather audibly to him, and he walked past me as if i do not exist.
fine. i’m short!! so be it!! anyways… right when we first met cyb in the apartment on the first day of our return to freddy, that very night, we lay some ground rules with him.. so we told him that each tenant of 672-4B Graham Avenue is to perform duty roster… and it’s a monthly sort of thing, which is fair enough… you pair up with another tenant, and when it’s ur duty week, just clean the house (i.e. the common area, kitchen, bathroom, and the little narrow corridor that leads to our rooms).. so basically for the common area, just vacuum it clean. how difficult can it be, right?
so we do not have problems with him not doing his duty. he did it, though not top notch clean (nobody beats crystal & kam for cleanliness), but we’re glad he did his part. the only part that we cannot stand is, everytime after 10pm, when we played our music (which we usually did), he had to bang on the wall -______- and there’s once, we were talking outside of my room (ok, it was around 11 pm or later), and we weren’t shouting on top of our lungs or anything, just regular chatting, when all of a sudden cyb went hysterical and bang on the doors non stop!!!!! and it’s rather shocking as we thought some lunatics were let out of the asylum.
ok, so you may say that we’re inconsiderate for staying up late and making noises. but the thing is, right when we first met on the first day on the month of august 2005, all of us the malaysian tenants (well, ah kam is considered malaysian since she’s been with us for way too long) notify him that we are all nostalgic animals, and we lurk around at night, and our earliest lights off time is 2 am in the morning, and thus he will expect some noises. so, not so unfair to him afterall, right? we did warn him and let him know that in advance.
so the very pissed off cyb got mad, and wrote on a little notice board that we provided him on his door a little message to all of us. it goes something like this: no music or noise after 10 pm, being considerate is basic manners… something of that sort. hullo!!! no noise after 10 pm??? what is this man?? some of us (yours truly included) has night classes till like 10 pm, and upon returning home, of course we will sure have some noises creeping around the apartment using the bath and kitchen and such… so? what’s the logic behind the no noise after 10 pm??
so of course being the inconsiderate brat i am, since that day onwards, once the clock strikes 10 at night, i will very kindly remind my other housemates to be considerate and no music after 10 by yelling on top of my lung. now take that, cyb!!! (evil grin)
and regarding his point of being considerate is basic manners… so this fella likes to buy stuff in bulk. not that we care, oh wait, we do.. cos he’s taking up way too much space in our fridge. but anyways, he will either buy yogurt in bulk (thus the name china yogurt boy), or popcorn in bulk (initially coinned him china yogurt popcorn boy, but it’s too long.. even the abbreviation is long), and the ones we HATED most is pork leg/hand in bulk and cook them in some stinky vinegar…
man, the pork he cooked is enough to kill us all off… the smell was HORRIBLE!!!!! and we have to live with it everyday and night when he boils it… and he boiled it for hours…… T_T so one day one of us can’t take it any longer and ask him if he minds cooking other dishes cos the smell of that dish was too much for us to handle. and he just gave us a cold stare and said no. so much for being considerate is a basic manner…. and not to mention when he popped the popcorns, the whole microwave oven stinks like popcorn, and till now the smell is still there cause he massively ate popcorn for months (wonder if he’d get constipation??)
and another very irritating habit of his, was he doesn’t wash his clothes using the washer, that is fine with us, but he doesn’t use the dryer either… man!! we’re in canada, not freaking china or malaysia!!! you need to use the dryer to dry your clothes during winter… but NO!!!!! HE HUNG IT IN HIS ROOM!!!! and since the windows are frozen during winter times, there was no air circulation in his room cos he basiccaly kept it SHUT 24/7, and can you imagine the stink??? all he has to do is open his door slightly ajar, and the remaining tenants of the apartment will be unconcious for 10 seconds.
his room seriously stink. and we actually wondered if something was dead in his room, so when he wasn’t around, i, being the brave one, covered my nose and went into his room to check the source of stink bomb. well, his room is clean and tidy, which is great. but the smell was just, ugh!!! puke worthy. and do you know, he has only like 5 t-shirts, and he wears them all the time, and we seldom he him washing it? well, now you know!! but it’s not cause he’s poor to not have a wider selection of clothes. he’s rich, ok!! we never had so much items courriered to our place before he bunks in, but when he’s around, lots of stuff came round, and all are Fed-Ex Priority shipping, ok… and they’re all computer parts. oh, by the way, he’s a sony freak. he’s got a Sony Vaio, and then he’s got a Sony deskstop, and he doesn’t use a cooling fan for his PC. he used a cooling tower!!!! and external PC cooling tower!! man!!!!
ya.. that’s him being rich, and wearing the most expensive ski jacket of the Columbia brand… titanium i think… but anyways… cause his room stink so much, and we hinted a lot of times for him to clean air it, he does nothing, so on christmas day, we all gave him air freshner as a present.. it’s brilliant and humiliating him at the same time. i know, we’re evil.
but all hell broke loose on a february night when we all decided to have a sit down talk with this guy regarding his smell. and china boy can’t take it at all… we have not even spoken and he started threwing fits and fist around… and victim of that night was none other than our skinny friend L. so skinny L was threwn a few punches by big ol’ cyb. and the two start fighting…. and we girls have to butt in. i pulled skinny away whilst crystal pulled cyb away. so after that fight, cyb and us rarely speaks, and he moved out of the house after his tenancy contract ended.
oh ya, of course we report the fight to the landlord, as it was him who started the physical assault afterall, and we get the landlord to check our apartment, you know, just so that he can rid off the stench of his room… so he moved out around april, never told us when he’s moving out, just got out just like that… and that marks the end of our acquaintance with mr. cyb.
it wasn’t pleasant at that time, but after all these years, it was one hilarious memory…
gloomy monday
August 18, 2008
it seems the sky is in a sad mood today…. it’s been mourning and tearing since morning.. why the gloom? maybe it’s the monday blues.
woke up to a heaty body temp. hasn’t been feeling too well lately… body temp rises, and been having mild fevers. but all’s well with the downpour outside this building… the rain had cooled the heat, and i can feel a drop in my body temp as well….
after all, maybe it wasn’t that gloomy if you think of it. it just feels like a late spring’s rain. the wind wailing and howling, telling you how the season’s reluctant to leave, washing the snow away, leaving your jeans’ hems muddy and dirty…. and the occasional ice pellets that smack your pretty face, too… ah, spring, after all you’re not that dainty…
the nostalgic feelings that sent me tingling down my spine…. love this rainy weather. pouring whole day, with threads of rain….. not too violent, just enough to have you drenched… and of course, perfect to sleep in….
